On 8 October from 16h30-19h00, the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat will organise a practical workshop where local authorities and EU decision-makers will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss different models of tapping into citizens and local businesses as a powerful resource for the clean energy transition, including transition planning, community engagement and financing. The workshop will be inspired by the experiences from EU islands and the REScoop.eu network.
With this workshop, the EU Islands Secretariat aims to help local authorities gain a better understanding of how citizens and other local stakeholders can become a powerful driver and facilitator of a holistic and equitable clean energy transition.
During the first part of the session, experts who have been involved in the realisation of multi-stakeholder transition projects will share good practice examples, highlighting specific engagement methods employed in these projects in the areas of energy transition planning, financing and community engagement.
The participants will then have the opportunity to split into smaller groups to dive deeper into the engagement methods and exchange with the experts and their peers on how they could include this method in their own endeavours. Participants will have the opportunity to cover 2 methods, in 2 sessions of 50 minutes each.
To close the session, the experts will summarise the key takeaways from the workshops, which will be shared in a follow-up with the participants, alongside further support to the island stakeholders according to the needs expressed.
