RES-Scoop #23 - February 2018
Energy transition to Energy Democracy

This is a newsletter of the European federation of renewable energy cooperatives (REScoop.eu). We are a growing network of 1.500 European energy cooperatives and their 1,000,000 citizens who are active in the energy transition.

Advocacy Update

February 2018

A lot has happened with the Clean Energy Package in the last couple of months. The Council adopted its general approach to the package in December, and the European Parliament adopted its position on the Renewable Energy Directive, the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Governance Regulation at the end of January.

On energy communities, the positions between the Parliament and the Council differ greatly, with the latter taking a rather obstructive stance towards enabling energy citizens. We expect a challenging debate, starting at the end of February. In the meantime, the ITRE Committee of the European Parliament will vote on amendments to market design legislation on the 21st of February. Contact your MEP now!

REScoop.eu organises a webinar to debrief her members on where the files of the Clean Energy Package stand and where we stand with our priorities and issues. Please fill out this Doodle to share your interest and availability.

Citynvest

Project outcomes

CITYnvest will soon come to and end, but not before publishing a couple of policy recommendations. Throughout the past few years, REScoop.eu built upon a relationship with networks of municipalities and regions like Climate Alliance and CEMR.
We mainly stressed the importance of a supportive local environment and shared examples of how cooperatives and municipalities can join forces to tackle climate change.
Our collaboration resulted in an appealing video that endorses the models of Ecopower and Pajopower.

Internet of Energy

6-7 March 2018, Berlin

The Internet of Energy 2018, organised by the Internet of Things, will take place in Berlin, exploring the current developments in the electric utilities sector.
The energy sector is being transformed rapidly by the increase of renewable energy resources, technology and new business models. Micro-grids and demand respond schemes are examples of drivers of that change. Decarbonisation, democratisation and disintermediation are concepts gaining importance in this changing landscape.
Meet one of REScoop.eu's colleagues at the event, talking about FLEXCoop, a European project introducing a complete automated Demand Response framework for residential electricity consumers.

Rural Renewable Energy Communities

The Ecco project

At the end of last year, the ECCO project has kicked off. REScoop.eu is one of the partners in this project, working together with farmers and communities in rural areas.

ECCO aims to accelerate the growth of local Energy Community Co-Operatives (ECCOs), both in effectiveness and in numbers. The project wants to achieve this by bringing ECCOs together and linking them up with relevant sources of knowledge from around North West Europe to overcome the barriers they face at present.
After the project these rural community-based ECCO's will be included in and supported by the network of REScoop.eu.
More information can be found on the Ecco website.
