The Energy Communities Repository, an initiative launched by the European Commission in April 2022, organises an online webinar on 21 June to launch an open call for technical assistance for energy communities in Europe. Applications are open for communities at any stage of development, ranging from informal groups of locals wishing to carry out community energy projects to well-established legal entities having already developed projects but in need of support to do more.

The potential assistance available includes

  • direct support through the provision of community development, technical, financial or legal experts
  • capacity-building workshops in small groups
  • peer learning from other energy communities
  • EU-wide capacity building webinars

What is the Energy Communities Repository?

The Energy Communities Repository was set up by the European Commission (following an initiative by the European Parliament). It aims to support and monitor energy communities’ activities across Europe, assess the impact of energy communities, and analyse national laws and enabling frameworks. The initiative contributes to a just transition to climate neutrality that allows citizens to take ownership of energy consumption and production.

The repository is for citizens and civil society, energy communities, public authorities and governments, policymakers, local businesses, etc. Every player with an interest in contributing to the development of energy communities across Europe!

The Repository will provide technical support to energy communities whose activities are primarily in urban areas. For rural communities, a second initiative, the Rural Energy Communities Advisory Hub, will be providing tailored technical assistance. The two programmes will be working closely together and an internal transfer of energy communities is feasible upon agreement depending on expressed needs.
