Policy Conference

  • Local power, global impact: innovative financing for energy communities | Tuesday, 11 June 2024, 14:30 - 16:00 CEST
Energy communities are essential for driving Europe's energy transition, but their growth is constrained by limited access to finance. This session will explore how public and private funding sources can support the large-scale scale-up of Energy Communities across Europe, unlocking their potential as drivers of sustainable energy solutions.

  • Collaboration versus competition: promoting a faster, just, and clean energy transition | Wednesday,12 June 2024, 09:30 - 11:00 CEST
The energy price crisis pushes consumers to renewables. But many cannot invest because of being tenants or living in a multi-family home. The session illustrates business models allowing all consumers to benefit from renewables.

  • From waste to renewable energy: biomethane and renewable energy communities | Wednesday, 12 June 2024, 16:30 - 18:00 CEST
The policy session will explore how biomethane projects can foster resilient energy communities based on local, circular supply chains. It will highlight the environmental and socio-economic benefits of biomethane production, such as waste-based feedstock utilization, organic fertilizer production and CO2 emissions mitigation. Citizen empowerment and local leadership development will be emphasized, while addressing social acceptance issues and the need to improve the sector awareness. Moreover, the session will present projections for biomethane potential production by 2040, offering insights into future energy landscapes. Finally, best practices for timely and constructive engagement with local communities will be shared, highlighting strategies to expedite the implementation of biomethane projects and achieve the energy transition’s objective.

  • Citizen-led initiatives for renovation | Wednesday, 12 June 2024, 16:30 - 18:00 CEST
Citizen-led renovation initiatives aim to engage citizens and communities to become the leaders in tackling the renovation challenges and enable upscaling of renovation action. Our primary goal in this policy session is to explore the potential of citizen led renovation in empowering citizens and communities to accelerate energy renovations as a key component in achieving the EU’s climate and energy targets. During this session, based upon the experiences of the Life IP BE REEL project, speakers will present specific activities and their outcomes as examples of how local authorities can contribute to and champion citizen-led renovation actions.

  • Less is more: empowering net-zero strategies by a reduced energy demand | Thursday 13 June 2024, 14:00 - 15:30 CEST
The shift to renewables in the Clean Energy Transition (CET) is key, yet the untapped potential of energy demand reduction (EDR) strategies to enhance it remains. This session explores how EDR can boost also a renewables-driven CET and support the EU's climate goals.
Contribution by Heleen Schockaert, project manager REScoop.eu
  • What can I do? The role of energy citizenship in closing implementation gaps in the energy transition | Thursday, 13 June 2024, 16:00 - 17:30 CEST
The goal of the session is to clarify the diverse roles that citizens have and will have in the future in creating change within the energy transition. Given the capacity for collective action in creating social change, what is the potential of citizen-led initiatives in bridging the gap between words and deeds within the energy transition?
