Energy communities can significantly contribute to the achievement of many of the European Union’s key priorities. This briefing takes stock of the European Commission’s 2028-2034 budget proposal and its implications for energy communities. The high level recommendations presented in this paper should act as a compass to the EU institutions as they craft the next budget, to empower local communities to take ownership of the energy transition.
