The Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) opened a public consultation on the draft of its new strategy for the period 2022-2025. The "Empowering consumers for the energy transition" strategy outlines the overall policy strategy for European energy regulators, which includes several references to energy communities, energy sharing and self-consumption, flexibility, and new business models.

REScoop.eu prepared a response highlighting important topics that the regulators should take into account with regards to energy communities. Consumer empowerment does not only include the ability of consumers to have access to information and have a choice of supplier, but first and foremost it is about making sure that consumers can actually participate - both individually and collectively - in the market as new market actors and take ownership of the energy transition.
