Energy Communities have immense potential in becoming a beckoning force to bring a just transition in the energy sector. But the inequalities within the energy sector and energy communities indicate that the journey of just transition will take longer (as women and other gender are not equally represented).

This paper aims to understand the status quo of gender, structure, perceptions, needs and integration of gender and women in energy communities. It also proposes strategies to mainstream gender in policies and practices.

The report is based on the results of the survey on gender in energy communities carried out by the EUCENA project. The survey was designed to understand the perspective of community members, boards, and employees regarding their gender, role, and position in their organisations. It also helps understand the existing structure of energy communities and their stand on women and gender.
