This report explains how energy cooperatives can successfully collaborate with local authorities including cities and municipalities. The report describes different forms of collaborations and features case studies.
Regardless of income or home ownership, all citizens should be able to benefit from participating in the energy transition. The ability to invest in energy efficiency or ownership of renewables should not be limited to well off households with enough disposable income. It is indeed vulnerable consumers and consumers experiencing energy poverty that can benefit most from being able to participate. In a number of EU Member States, REScoops (also known as ‘renewable’ or ‘local’ energy communities) already pursue social aims, such as fighting against energy poverty. If supported by EU law and policy, REScoops can further empower vulnerable and low-income households across the EU to be able to share in the benefits of the energy transition.
The European Commission’s proposal of its “Clean Energy for All Europeans” Package and its acknowledgement of renewable and local energy communities provides one more step towards empowering citizens to take more responsibility over their energy supply and their consumption. However, in order to promote energy efficiency first through energy communities, the package needs to better recognize the important role that REScoops play in encouraging and empowering behavioural change by citizens in how they use energy, including energy savings.
The REScoop PLUS project has the purpose to help enhance energy efficiency as a value creating activity for the European cooperatives. The energy efficiency topic is crucial to reach the EU’s 2020 climate and energy targets.
The REScoop PLUS project looked at the drivers of Energy Efficiency with the cooperative members. In this academic process, two separate studies were conducted by our academic partner, the University of Twente. Supported by the cooperatives of the consortium, the University team collected input from cooperative members from all over Europe. The two studies’ results were collected in two effectiveness report
Statistical Analysis of the energy saving in REScoops.
This report presents the results of the analysis on the effectiveness of activities of energy supplying European REScoops (Renewable Energy Cooperatives) to influence and help their members to save energy and to invest in renewable energy.
This report presents the results of the first analysis on the effectiveness of activities of energy supplying European REScoops (Renewable Energy Sources Cooperatives) to influence and help their members to save energy and to invest in renewable energy.
This deliverable presents the statistical analysis methodology, and its results on the datasets that the collaborating REScoops of the REScoop PLUS project provided.
The goal of this report is to review the statistical analysis of the impact of the best practices on the cooperative members of the REScoop PLUS.
With the "One Tariff Structure", Ecopower (BE) implemented a very simple principle. The essence of the measure is to offer "one price per KWh", for all the customers of the cooperative, regardless of where they live or how much they consume. Ecopower sends an invoice to all its customers (and therefore members) on a yearly basis. The tariffs are defined every year by the cooperative depending on taxes, transportation costs and energy prices.
Energie ID is a platform for the active customers of Ecopower (BEL). Customer fill in their own data on the easy to use platform on a monthly basis. This data is used by Energie ID to create a future profile of their consumption and the compare them to similar households. The platform is also giving access for customers to groups where they can get support to be more energy efficient by an energy expert from Ecopower.
