Overall assessment

The updated National Recovery and Resilience Plan of Austria, including the REPowerEU chapter, does not make any references to energy communities. Some elements could be indirectly beneficial towards energy communities, including:

• Reform: 5.A.1 Acceleration of permitting procedures for renewables: This reform foresees amendments to the Environmental Impact Assessment Act, simplifying the permitting process and setting clear time-bound deadlines for potential objections to project applications.
• Investment: 5.B.1 Photovoltaic systems: a subsidy scheme to support the installation of PV systems between 10 - 50kwp (in some cases including storage) for private persons and not-for-profit organisations.
  

No support for fossil fuels is foreseen in the modified Austrian NRRP.
