Overall assessment

Reform 1 (C6.1R1) of the Cypriot REPowerEU chapter will establish the regulatory framework for energy communities through elaboration of existing laws through secondary legislation. This reform will thus promote the participation of citizens either as Active Customers and/or Renewable Self-consumers, through Citizen Energy Communities and/or Renewable Energy Communities, Demand Response through Cumulative Representation in the national energy market.

The Cypriot Energy Regulatory Authority is tasked with creating the regulatory framework.

Further, single contact points will be established across the country to help citizens access all the relevant information, administrative procedures, and permitting processes for becoming active consumers, or joining/founding an energy community (REC/CEC).

No fossil fuel projects will be supported following the revision of the Cypriot National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
